Streets of Seattle
The 3rd Tuesday of every month, we make a meal and serve it to the Seattle homeless community.
We meet in the Grace kitchen at 5pm to make the meal, then load up the car(s) and drive on the 7:20pm ferry to Seattle. We arrive at outdoor meal site (under I-5 at 6th and James), set-up and ready to serve right around 8pm. We are usually back on the 9:15pm ferry, occasionally if the crowds are extra large we'll be on the 10:05pm ferry to Bainbridge.
It's rewarding to see the whole process (prep, cook and serve the meal), but if you can only be there for a part of it that's ok too, just let us know in the comments section that you will just be cooking or serving. We want to make sure we have enough people to help.
5pm-6:50pm Kitchen Shift - meet in Grace kitchen to help prep and cook the meal
7:20-9:50pm Serving Shift - meet in galley on 7:20pm ferry to help serve
Families with kids 10yrs. and older are welcome to join. We ask that kids are accompanied by an adult.
This is also a great service project for youth groups. If you have a group that is interested in doing community service and bonding as a team, email us and we'll reserve a date for your group.
We are so grateful for the support and funding from Grace Church to make these meals possible. Thanks for volunteering and serving our homeless community.
A few notes:
- Dress in layers that you don't mind getting dirty. We make pasta with red sauce and it can get messy. Also, the kitchen gets quite warm while we prep the meal then we are out in the cold, night air when we serve.
- Bring some light snacks or dinner to eat on the ferry.
- We'll pay for your ferry pass.
