For the past 17 years, the T&C Optimist Club has assisted our friends at the Austin Optimist Club by helping them work their Christmas tree lot at North Lamar and San Gabriel, just south of 29th street. The Austin Optimist Club has been selling Christmas trees for over 60 years and have been at their current location over 40 years. The tree lot is not a small operation. It has done $30,000 in sales on a single Saturday or Sunday!
This has been a win-win relationship as T&C provides tree lot workers. In turn, the Austin Club has donated $104,000 to T&C over the years in support of T&C youth sports activities. The Austin Optimist Club uses their tree lot proceeds to support many Austin youth non-profit organizations.
The tree lot opens at 1 pm on Friday, November 23. The Austin Club will operate the lot through Friday, December 14. The tree lot is open 1-9 pm on weekdays and 9 am-9 pm on weekends. Volunteer shifts are four hours each.
T&C is looking to fill at least 80 shifts again this year. Work could include stocking trees for display, helping customers find their tree, carrying trees up front, fresh cuts with a chain saw, carrying trees to cars and tying them on vehicles.
Thanks to all of you who have volunteered in the past. Please share all the fun you have had with your friends and get a work group together to work a shift. We'd like to get groups from our sports associations so please share this information with board members and parents. Kids can volunteer but due to the nature of the work it is recommended they be 12 years or older.
