Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka
Calling Actors, Singers, and Dancers of all ages – Mixed adult and youth cast
Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to chocolate-covered life.
Sunday: August 18th from 3-5 at the Christiansburg Public Library
Monday: August 19th from 6-8 on the Village Center Stage, 2387 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg, VA
The first hour of auditions is for vocals and monologues. The second hour is for dance and cold readings from the show.
Although age ranges are listing with the character descriptions do not let this limit you. We can age up and age down many characters in this show. Willy Wonka is an adult role only.
Those auditioning should:
- 1-2 minutes of a Broadway or pop song to be sung acapella
- prepare a monologue (30-60 seconds), can be read, but memorized is a bonus.
- Be prepared to cold read sides from the show
- come prepared to dance in comfortable clothes you can move in
- list all work/date/school conflicts on your audition form
November 3-17 includes tech week and two weekends of shows.
Due to the large volume of those auditioning, we will not be calling everyone back. If you are not called back, it does NOT mean that you are not cast. The cast list will be announced on August 20-21st.
Due to our growing performing arts program, this production is NOT an all play, meaning that you may not be cast.
All cast members are expected to be present, prepared and on time for all rehearsals they are called to.
We may ask cast members to provide their own dance shoes, tights, and undergarments. This is not included in the $25 costume fee.
Rehearsals for ensemble roles will be held mostly on Saturday or Sunday. Main cast will have rehearsal dates both during the week and on the weekends. A main cast member can expect 1-3 rehearsals per week depending on the role. An official rehearsal schedule with individual call dates/times will be made available at first rehearsal. We will make best efforts to ensure that the youngest members of the cast are not held past 9PM with the exception of tech week and show nights.
It is expected that each performer will attend all rehearsals they are called to. That being said,, we are aware that some performers will have occasional conflicts. It is critical that you list all of your conflicts so that we can build the schedule accordingly.
We ask that there be no conflicts beginning November 3 through the run of the show.
Registration required: Sign up forms are available by email request. Please bring the completed form to the first audition. [email protected]
Fees: Auditions are FREE. If you are cast there is a script fee of $10 and a costume fee of $25. We do offer scholarships in case of financial hardships.
Parents: All parents must sign up to help for (2) show slots to help manage and supervise the younger cast members. Through this partnership all parents get to see multiple shows and the younger children are supervised with plenty of positive direction.
