After School Programs Chair

3x/year - Act as liaison for after school programs (Chess, karate, etc) and the district. Coordinate with school Secretary for available rooms, max # of kids, pick up plan etc.

Back to School Co-Chair (2)

Kick off the school year with distribution of yard signs and a parent coffee on the first day of school.

Back to School Committee Member (10)

Assist co-chairs with placing HW yard signs in school families' yards prior to the first day of school and assist with parent coffee (morning).

Bike Safety Co-Chair (2)

Ideal for a 2nd grade parent. Plan and coordinate outdoor bike safety event ("Bike Rodeo") in May for 2nd graders. Coordinate with our local Boy Scouts troop (who runs the event), the School district and police department.

Book Fair Co-Chair (2)

Work with book fair company, Resource Center director and committee to organize annual book fair fundraiser for school Resource Center (library). The book fair is typically held in November for two days.

Book Fair Committee Member (25)

Assist co-chairs with set up/take down and working shifts at the annual book fair. Typically held for two days in November.

Community Outreach Co-Chair (2)

Plan and execute outreach events in January and various food drives throughout the year. Consider options for an assembly.

Assist chairs with service events.

Faculty Fun Lunch Co-Chair (2)

Coordinate 5-6 Friday lunches for HW teachers/staff throughout the school year, one being a welcome back to school lunch in late August.

Field Day Co-Chair (2)

Work with HW staff to plan and execute Field Day in late May. This includes ordering t-shirts, coordinating parent volunteers and other day-of assistance (making water balloons, providing water and being available for any add'l needs during the event).

Work a morning and/or afternoon shift at all school Field Day in late May.

Fine Arts Chair

Recruit volunteers to help set up for Winter/Spring presentations, set up a 4th grade chorus performance. Recruit a parent with a strings student to help set up Spring Strings Concert. Coordinate gift cert. for related arts teachers as needed.

Fourth Grade Farewell Co-Chair (2)

Organize farewell events for Fourth Grade students and parents at the end of the school year.

Assist chairs with farewell events and video for Fourth Grade families.

Fourth Grade Farewell Video Chair

Gather photos of all fourth graders throughout their HW years and create a farewell video.

Girls On the Run (6)

Parents lead a team of 3rd and 4th grade girls as volunteer coach.Coordinate with Girls on the Run program to focus on building social, emotional and physical skills. The group involves weekly meetings/runs after school from mid-Sept to mid-Nov and a 5k.

Green Team Co-Chair (2)

Composting is coming back to HW in 2022-23! Manage school recycling/composting program and coordinate parent lunchroom volunteers. Represent HW at monthly district Green Team meetings. Promote Earth Week events in April and consider ideas for assembly.

Assist students in lunch room with recycling/composting one day per week or as able.

Grounds Co-Chair (2)

Organize committee members to plant/water school Planters 3x/yr, plant/water Aunt Ruth's Garden, coordinate a school-wide Fall Clean Up and coordinate care for Butterfly Garden.

Grounds Committee Member (8)

Help with planting/watering Planters 3x/yr, plant/water Aunt Ruth's Garden, assist with a school-wide Fall Clean Up, caring for the Butterfly Garden and any other landscaping needs.

Hot Lunch Co-Chair (2)

Be the liaison between our lunch provider, HWS and Families, with the support of PTO Exec. Help influence menu choices, provide input on dates services are not needed, and coordinate hot lunch volunteers if needed.

Kindergarten Co-Chair (2)

Ideally for a parent who has already had a Kindergartner and has another entering Kindergarten. Coordinate Back to School Kindergarten popsicle party, assist with school tours and any other K needs throughout the year.

Lost & Found Chair

3x/year - check for names, add a picture to the Item notifying parents, wash and prepare for donation.

Mayfest Co-Chair (2)

Organize HW's biggest annual fundraiser, a playground carnival and raffle in mid May!

Mayfest Committee Member (10)

Organize the games, rides, food, music and raffle for our carnival themed fundraiser in mid May.

New Family Welcome Co-Chair (2)

Match up committee members with new families (Buddy Families) in late July/early Aug, coordinate New Family Popsicle party week before school, coordinate New Family Coffee in late Sept/October, assist/welcome new families who join throughout the year

New Family Welcome Committee Member (25)

Connect with your Buddy Family at the beginning of the year and check in throughout the year, assist with late summer New Family tours, New Family popsicle party and New Family coffee in fall.

Coordinate our annual party for HW parents, teachers and staff! Preferably in Fall.

Manage school picture day in mid Sept. Role includes communicating with photography studio and coordinating parent volunteers to supervise classrooms.

Pizza Fun Lunch Co-Chair (2)

Facilitate student ordering process, order pizza and secure fruit/veggie side for Pizza Fun Lunch two Fridays per month throughout the school year. Coordinate committee member parent volunteers to assist on Pizza Fun Lunch Fridays.

Pizza Fun Lunch Committee Member (10)

Split up Pizza Fun Lunch Friday dates with other committee members and assist chairs with distribution of pizza/sides to students at lunchtime.

Playground Co-Chair (3)

Lead the efforts in updating our Upper Playground! This will include working with the District, a playground contractor/landscaper, HW staff in creating a plan and determining fundraising needs/efforts.

School Supplies Chair

Manage and promote the PTO school supply sale in August and assist new families with purchasing supplies as needed throughout the school year.

Coordinate social events for HW families! This could be a simple coffee in Mann park, movie in the park, a luncheon at a local venue, adult yoga, kids dance party, kids Bingo night, whatever brings our families together!

Plan a special week in March to thank HW teachers and staff including daily treats and lunch on Friday with raffle.

Assist chairs with a special week in March full of food and perks (including securing items for raffle gift baskets) for HW teachers and staff.

The Alliance for Early Childhood Rep

Represent HW at regular Alliance meetings and work with PTO Communications to promote Alliance events.

The Family Action Network (FAN) Rep

Represent HW at regular FAN meetings and work with PTO Communications to promote FAN events.

World Travelers Co-Chair (2)

Coordinate 3 internationally themed presentations and hallway decorations. Consider options for an assembly.

World Travelers Committee Member (4)

Assist chairs with the travelogue presentation and hallway decorations for each of the three chosen countries.

Yearbook Co-Chair (2)

Design, create, and order yearbook. Manage class photographers to capture needed photos.

Yearbook Committee Member (3)

Serve as "on call" photographers for chairs, taking photos at school/school events as requested. Each classroom will still have its own photographer.

Assist Gary Wendt with understanding new student television technology.
