Congregation B'nai Jacob
This year Congregation B’nai Jacob will co-host Sukkah on the Green, a special Sukkot version of Chapel on the Green, with volunteers from the First Congregational Church of Old Saybrook. The event takes place behind Trinity Church on the Green, in New Haven. Rabbi Shapiro will first give a brief interfaith service and then together we’ll serve a meal to about 140 people. CBJ will provide soup, bottled water and a dessert, see list below. Our co-hosts are providing sandwiches, fruit, and snacks.
It is a special mitzvah during Sukkot to feed the hungry!
We need CBJ members to prepare food and deliver it to CBJ -ready to serve- by 12:00 pm on Sunday October 20, 2019. Parking near the New Haven Green is limited, so we will load food at CBJ and carpool to New Haven. Please bring ONLY the food you have signed up for. This will help us keep organized and on schedule. We also need volunteers to help on site with the meal.
Anyone who wants to drive separately and meet up with the carpool should arrive at the Sukkah on the New Haven Green by 1:30 pm. After a brief orientation with the staff, we will unload the food and set up the serving tables.
The service begins at 2:00 pm. The meal will start about 2:30 pm and last until about 3:15, at which point we will clean up. We expect to finish and be ready to leave by 3:30 p.m.
Trinity Church on the Green is located at 230 Temple Street, on the corner of Temple and Chapel Streets. There is no parking on Temple Street, but parking is available on the surrounding streets.
