Inaugural MLK Feed the Hood Day of Action

MLK Feed the Hood Day of Action is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."

Dr. King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" Therefore Commissioner Salim Adofo,  NAACP DC Branch, and the National Black United Front will provide opportunities to serve the community and your country in deep and meaningful ways. You can help us fight homelessness by providing 1,000 care packages for at risk families in the Nation’s Capital.  If you are unable to volunteer, please feel free to make a donation to help us reach our goal.

Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in a nation of freedom and justice for all, and encouraged all citizens to live up to the purpose and potential of America by applying the principles of nonviolence. MLK Feed the Hood Day of Action is a way to honor his life and teachings by engaging in community action that continues to solve social problems. Service breaks down barriers by bringing people from different experiences together – volunteering can unite Americans of all ages and backgrounds while building stronger communities.

Volunteers are asked to donate $10 towards the preparation of the care packages.

Questions That Need Answers:

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable attire and shoes. You will be on your feet for about two hours. You can also purchase our signature #FeedTheHood Shirt.

How do I get there?

If you are driving there is free parking in the school parking lot or on the street.

The closest metro stop is Congress Heights. From there you can ride share or take the W4 bus to MLK Elementary.

Can I bring children?

Yes children are encouraged to come. We will have activities specifically for children. High school students are also encouraged to attend so that they can receive volunteer hours towards graduation.
