Fun In The Sun
On Friday, May 18th, we will be holding Meadowlark’s Field Day. This event will take place at the District Stadium located behind Cottonwood Elementary. Students will walk to this event with their classroom teacher before their session begins. There will be several fun stations for the students to rotate around to as well as some class competitions. The 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be doing a 4X100 relay event. The relay teams consist of 2 boys and 2 girls from each class. There will be try-outs for this event that will take place during their p.e. class. 5th grade will also have the opportunity to compete in actual track & field events such as long jump, shot put, discus, 100m, 200m and 400m. Please have your child dress for physical activity and wear tennis shoes. Please send a water bottle, with their name on it, because they will get thirsty! We will have water coolers at the field to refill their bottles. Sunscreen is also beneficial because they will be outside for 2 hours. When they are not doing their class competitions, students will rotate around to a variety of “Fun” station activities with a partner. As they complete each station the volunteer will mark it off their card. Classroom teachers will be up at the field to help supervise, as well as, other school staff. All students will participate in the morning from 9:30--11:30. We will need parent volunteers to help run the stations.
If you would like to volunteer to help with this event please sign up by May 11th or you can email me at [email protected] . If it rains, we will bring the event inside with modifications to the games, and track and field events will be cancelled. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your help and cooperation. We’re looking forward to a fun and “hopefully” sunny day!
