WAS Variety Show 2019
Hello WAS Family!
If your child is in Kindergarten, First, or Second grade at Walnut Ave School, they are invited to participate in this year's 11th Annual Variety Show. The Variety Show is totally voluntary. Each class (K-2) participates in a dance revolved around a theme. After many practices
(in school) children will be performing their dance in the evening at the Union Performing Arts Center in Rahway (April 11th). Over the years, the overall consensus is that the children are very excited about the dance as it non-competitive.
We are utilizing this sign up genius as a method of registration for students this year. If your child is interested, and you would like them to participate in the Variety Show, you must sign them up here.
Rehearsals for the Variety Show will take place during the kids' recess for 1st, 2nd and full day Kindergarten on the days scheduled. Morning Kindergarten will take place at 11:15 and PM class will be at 3:00 on the days scheduled. As it gets closer to the show, we might hold a few afternoon practices in the gym so that the kids can get used to doing the dances in a bigger space. Afternoon rehearsals will begin at the conclusion of the school day and end at 3:30 pm. You will need to make arrangements to get your child from school at promptly at 3:30, on their scheduled rehearsal days.
There is also an option on this sign up for parents who want to be class directors. If you are interested in being a director for your child's class, please indicate that on the sign up. There are only 4 directors per class.
Director Responsibilities Include:
-- Being the liaison for Karyn/Kim to all parents in your group
--Attend EVERY rehearsal to help teach the dance moves to the children. Note: All dances are choreographed already, you do NOT need a dance background (or really any coordination) for this job!(I only need 2 directors during recess rehearsals so you can alternate with each other. I will need all 4 directors for the dress rehearsals and the night of the show.)
--Organize the costumes for your group. You will need to order and collect payment from everyone in your group. Individual parents are responsible for the cost of the costume--NOT directors. (average cost of costumes $30 or less)
--Manage your group at BOTH the dress rehearsal and night of the show. If you can not attend either one, please do not volunteer as a director.
Last, but not least...If you are a second grade parent, make sure to sign Dad up for the Dad's dance at the end of the signup. It is always a big hit and the kids love to see their dads on stage!
