National Trails Day

Lace your shoes, grab your work gloves, and bring your love of the great outdoors on Saturday, June 1st to celebrate National Trails Day, a nationwide movement to enjoy, appreciate and sustain America's remarkable trail systems. Enjoy coffee and donuts and learn more about Park trails and upcoming events from 8 -8:45 am at the Temporary Visitor Center located in the lower parking lot. Please note that long pants and closed toed shoes are recommended for all activities. In case of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled by 6:00 am on June 1st. Mount Joy Hike (25)

(8:30 am start) Three mile (1.5 hour) hike. Meet at Artillery Park Parking Lot. Dress for exercise including hiking shoes/boots. Steep, unpaved, forested trail up and down Mt. Joy including an overlook of Valley Creek. Bring water. Restrooms available.

Grand Parade Trail Hike (25)

(8:45 am start) Three mile (2 hour) hike on the Grand Parade Trail leaves from Varnum's parking lot. Plan to walk on uneven grass and gravel surfaces. Sun hats, sunscreen, water bottles, and binoculars are recommended. No dogs allowed.

Dog Walk (25)

(9:00 am start) Two mile (1 hour) walk from the Temporary Visitor Center to the National Memorial Arch and back. Dogs take the Bark Ranger Pledge. Dogs and strollers welcome.

Walk into History (25)

(9:30 am start) One mile (1 hour) hike from the Temporary Visitor Center to the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts. Walk on both paved and grassy surfaces.

Highlights of Happenings in the Park walk (25)

(9:45 am start) One hour walk from the Temporary Visitor Center, over Sullivan's Bridge and along the Schulykill River Trail. Strollers and dogs welcome.

Weed Warriors (15)

(9:00 am - 12:00 pm) Weed Warrior volunteers will remove invasive plants in the Park. Equipment and gloves provided. Meet at Maurice Stephens Parking Lot across from the Washington Memorial Chapel.

REI Hands on Stewardship Project (40)

(9:00 am - 12:00 pm) Join Park staff and volunteers for a project improving the Wayne's Woods area. Split rail fencing will be replaced. REI outdoor instructors will be on hand to provide basics on hiking and camping in front country locations.
