Assemblies Committee Co-Chairs

Support logistical needs for assemblies planned by the principal or other committees such as Dash n Bash, SELAS, and author visits as requested.

Battle of the Books Chair

Assist with communication by posting important Battle of the Books dates to the Prospectus newsletter. Battle of the Books is open to 4th & 5th grade students. You do not need to attend Battle of the Books meetings.

Bike Rodeo Committee Co-Chairs (3)

Plan & execute Bike Rodeo. Bike Rodeo is a 1-day, 90 min event at the beginning of the school year, open to 3rd-5th grade students, who will receive their "license" to ride bike to school upon completion. Typically run by 3rd-5th grade parents.

Bike Rodeo Committee Volunteers (15)

Parents of 3rd - 5th grade students help run a bike safety course for these students. This is a 1-day, 90 minute commitment.

Book Fair Co-Chairs (4)

Assist the MRC Director, Mrs. Swanson, with a Fall (November) and Spring (May) book fair by helping with set-up and running of the event as well as the volunteer coordination. They will also maintain the display case outside the library.

Box Top Committee Co-Chairs (2)

Raise money for Prospect by coordinating and promoting the collection of the Box Tops you see on many products at the grocery store.

Class Pictures Committee Chair

Schedule, communicate, and coordinate the All School Picture, Class Picture Day, and a make-up day. Ideally looking for a 2-year commitment for volunteer.

Provide general assistance during Class Picture Day, occurring during school day. Help walk students to and from their classes for pictures.

Communication Committee Co-Chairs

Collect, edit, and format articles for the weekly newsletter, the Prospectus; coordinate email blasts. Work is done from home/evening hours.

Communication Committee Public Relations Chair

Connect with local media contacts regarding school event information/photos; work with event chairs for summaries/photos; act as school liaison for D181 Communications Director. Work done from home/evening hours.

Communication Committee Translator

Translate our school newsletter, the Prospectus, into Spanish for paper distribution. Provide additional support as needed to Spanish speaking families. Work done from home/evening hours.

Communication Committee Webmaster (2)

Maintain PTO website updates and weekly postings. Work is done from home/evening hours.

Directory Committee Chair

Work closely with the school office to edit contact information for families and staff for the school directory app. Work is done from home/evening hours.

EcoPanthers Committee Chair

Support bi-monthly after school "Green" club (run by Prospect staff). Send reminder emails for meetings & schedule summer volunteers to water Outdoor Learning Center.

Plan & execute production of a video of the 5th grade students throughout the school year to be shown at the "Clap Out" on the last day of school in June.

Investigate & recommend fundraising initiatives for PTO.

Gift Wrap Fundraiser Committee Chair (2)

Coordinate fall fundraiser working with outside vendor. Publicize, collect order forms, place final order and oversee distribution of gift wrap orders. Work done from home/evening hours.

Grounds Committee Chair

Plant seasonal flowers in school planters; ensure school cross-walks are painted prior to beginning of school year.

Holiday Bazaar Committee Co-Chairs (3)

Plan & excute the Holiday Bazaar occuring on 1 evening in early December afterschool in MPR. Assist students with gift purchasing and wrapping for immediate family members and pets.

Help plan and prepare for Holiday Bazaar. Shop for affordable gifts; help plan for gift wrapping and shopper assistance.

Hot Lunch Committee Co-Chairs (2)

Coordinate once monthly purchased hot lunch program (historically occurs on a Wednesday). Work with outside vendors to provide food and determine pricing. Schedule and direct monthly parent volunteers who serve the lunch.

Hot Lunch Committee Volunteer (25)

Serve food to students during one or more hot lunch session (historically occurs once monthly on a Wednesday). Help with set-up, food service, and clean-up.

Inspiration Club for Girls Co-Chairs (2)

Plan themes, speakers, crafts and activities for the club. Open to 4th and 5th grade girls.

Inspiration Club for Girls Committee Volunteers (3)

Provide general assistance at meetings.

Library Committee Chair

Work with Mrs Swanson to organize a monthly schedule of parent volunteers who assist in the Library during school hours, matching parents to their respective child(ren) Library times.

Library Committee Volunteers

Assist the Library staff with book check-out for K-4th grade; Shelve returned books during school hours in Library. You will be assigned a date/time to come during your child(ren)'s classroom library visit.

Music Committee Co-Chair

Work closely with Mrs Kozakis to organize a monthly schedule of parent volunteers who assist during their child's music class and assist with scheduling volunteers for set-up/take-down for grade level performances.

Music Committee: Classroom Volunteer

Volunteer during your child(ren)'s music class, including filming and other duties as needed. Volunteer for set-up/take-down of grade level assemblies.

Music Committee: Choir Librarian (2)

This position may be best suited for a parent of a choir student. Organize choir music files and create a google document listing all choir music. Hours are flexible and can be done from home.

Music Committee: Cougars Reading Club (2)

Work directly with Mrs Kozakis to collect and distribute ticket orders and handle communication about this fun family event! The Cougars game date is typically a Spring Saturday.

Music Committee: Website Volunteer

Tech-savvy parent needed to work directly with Mrs Kozakis to update the Prospect music department website. This position could be done outside of school hours.

Newcomers Committee Co-Chairs (2)

Serve as a resource contact for New Families throughout the year. Place new family yard signs in the summer; plan & host 1-2 summer park dates and a new family/kindergarten Mix and Mingle (historically the day prior to 1st day of school).

Newcomers Committee Volunteers (10)

Help with planning/execution of Mix and Mingle event and placing yard signs for new families. Work occurs in August.

Nominating Committee Co-Chairs (Current Year Co-VPs) (2)

Oversee identification and selection of nominees for each PTO Executive Board role. Present final list of nominees at April PTO meeting to be sworn in at the May PTO meeting.

Nominating Committee Member Volunteers (11)

Assist with identifying nominees for each PTO Executive Board role. Ideally committee volunteers represent all grade levels at Prospect. Volunteers may serve no more than two consecutive years.

One World Night Co Chairs (2)

Plan and run a global festival open house, featuring food and a talent showcase contributed by Prospect families. It will encourage cultural curiosity, educate Prospect families and offer opportunity to deepen their global connectedness.

One World Night Volunteers (16)

Help execute the open house festival featuring food and talent across cultures. The night will be in November.

Parents Night Out Committee Co-Chairs (2)

Plan a parents only social event. Sell tickets to cover cost of this break-even event to be held immediately following Curriculum Night. May also include auction items such as preferred seating and parking.

Parents Night Out Committee Volunteers (2)

Help co-chairs in planning a parent only event including selling tickets, researching venues, etc.

Robotics Club (2)

Plan and execute after-school club using LEGO WeDo and LEGO Mindstorms. Volunteers will also manage the registration and communication for the club

Room Parent Committee Co-Chairs (2)

Finalize the Room Parents for each classroom (2-3 per class) in the fall. Hold orientation meeting to communicate responsibilities and budget. Generally oversee Halloween, Holiday & End of Year parties.

School Supply Kit Committee Chair (2)

Work with the Prospect staff to develop supply lists by grade. Select vendor and coordinate school supply kit orders in Fall/Winter (2019) and manage the distribution of the kids in August the week before school begins.

School Supply Kit Committee Volunteers (3)

Assist the distribution of school supply kits to classrooms on a weekday just prior to beginning of school year. This is roughly a 1 hour commitment.

Science Week & Science Fair Committee Co-Chairs (2)

Develop a theme and plan Science Week (historically held late February/early March). Activities include kick-off assemblies, daily trivia quizzes, and a non-competitive Science Fair & STEM Family Night.

Science Week & Science Fair Committee Volunteers (15)

Help plan and prepare for Science Week by creating informative display cases and planning and running daily trivia quizzes. Create event program and help set-up/run Science Fair & STEM Family Night.

STEM Family Night Volunteers (40)

Volunteer for 1 hour shift at the STEM Family Night held in conjunction with the Science Fair; help students complete hands-on activities in one of the STEM components - science, technology, engineering or math!

Shop N Share Committee Chair

Raise money for Prospect School by developing 4-6 shopping events with local businesses. Set up the timing and details for each event and handle all publicity for events.

Assist Committee Chair with developing events. Put up and take down lawn signs day of events.

Sister School (William Penn Elementary in Chicago) Committee Co-Chairs (3)

Serve as liaison for all activities and communications between Prospect & William Penn. Prior activities have included donation drives, 4th grade field trip by Penn students with Prospect, and running the Penn School store each month.

Sister School Committee Volunteers (20)

Be an active participant in maintaining our relationship with William Penn Elementary. Assist with various drives, help administer the William Penn school store, and assist with the 4th grade Penn field trip with Prospect.

Spelling Bee Committee Co-Chairs (3)

Organize and run an all school spelling bee assembly for 3rd-5th graders (typically held in January). Organize in-class spelling bees run by the teachers to determine participants. Usually one co-chair is pronouncer and one is the judge.

Spirit Wear Committee Co-Chairs (2)

Promote Prospect School spirit by selling tshirts, gear, and other items with the Prospect name or panther logo. Sales occur at the beginning of the school year and wrap up before the holidays.

Spirit Wear Committee Volunteers (5)

Assist the committee co-chair with selling spirit wear items.

Student Leadership Team Committee Co-Chairs (3)

Lead after-school club of 4th & 5th graders as they grow their leadership skills. Provide opportunities for community outreach, in-school programming, and team-building activities. Schedule local leaders to speak at monthly meetings.

Student Leadership Team Committee Volunteers (5)

Assist in the administration of this club by ordering club tshirts, coordinating meeting volunteers, organize carpools for off-site events, write Friday morning announcements, and take photos at SLT events.

Strategic Gifts Co-Chairs (2)

Following a defined process, solicit requests for the funding of new school projects. Work with the school administration, PTO executive board, and teachers to review, prioritize, and fund requests.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Committee Co-Chairs (3)

Organize activities showing appreciation from students and parents to our Prospect staff and teachers. Activities are mainly during Teacher Appreciation Week in May, but can be spread out throughout the year.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Committee Volunteers (30)

Assist with organization and execution of activities that demonstrate appreciation from students and parents to our Prospect teachers and staff.

Unity Day Co-Chairs (2)

Plan and execute activities for Unity Day on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

Walk to School Day Committee Chair

This committee will coordinate Prospect's participation in the International Walk to School Day on October 7, 2020. Coordinate logistics with school office, publicize event, and contact local community representatives to join in the walk.

Help with planning of Walk to School Day.

Yearbook Committee Chair (2)

Create the annual Prospect School Yearbook. Supervise a committee of 1-2 parent volunteers per class in creating class-specific collages. Manage the submission of all materials to the printers by March deadline.
