Burns Park Run Volunteers 2022

The Burns Park Run is only as successful as the 130+ dedicated volunteers that provide their valuable time! Please volunteer to support this vital Burns Park Elementary PTO fundraiser (and beloved community event)! It's easy and fun!

Crew-specific instructions are emailed to volunteers prior to their volunteer duties. Most duties allow for participation in the 5K and 10K races.  For those positions that don’t allow for participation in the race, it is noted under the position description.

MARKETING: Poster/Postcard Distribution (4)

Month of March. Distribute advertising posters and postcards to local Ann Arbor businesses. Materials available early March. NOTE: Timing is flexible.

 
04/29/2022 (Fri.)

COURSE LAYOUT: Driver

Fri 4/29 1pm pickup; Sun 5/1 6:15am setup, 11am collect; Mon 5/2 return. MUST have a van or truck. MUST commit to all (4) times. Pickup/return, setup/collect barricades, cones & mile markers. Duties span multiple days. Add'l instructions will be provided.

 
04/30/2022 (Sat.)

REGISTRATION: Packet Pickup/Late Reg (9)

1:30pm in/ 5pm out. Hand out packets to pre-registered participants. Assist participants with late registration. Sell surplus t-shirts.

 

WATER STATION: Supply Delivery

Pick up supplies day before (4/30) at Burns Park Warming Hut and deliver to Mile 1 and Mile 2 water station hosts. After race (~10:30 am on 5/2), pick up supplies from hosts and return to Warming Hut. Timing is flexible.

 
05/01/2022 (Sun.)

RACE SITE SETUP (2)

6am in/ 8:15am out. MUST be an early riser. Help race directors with general race site setup prior to registration opening. May involve some light lifting or climbing.

 

COURSE LAYOUT: Assistant (2)

6am setup, 10am collect. MUST commit to both time slots. Setup/collect barricades, cones and mile markers on race day with course layout driver. NOTE: Duties span multiple times on race day. Some timing flexible.

 

AWARDS: Hand out medals to registered 5k and 10k runners up to 12th grade (4)

8am in/10am out. Hand out medals to registered 5K and 10K finishers as they cross the finish line! Runners up to 12th grade only receive medals. NOTE: CANNOT be participating in 5K or 10K.

 

AWARDS: Fun Run Ribbons (6)

9:00am in/9:45am out. Hand out ribbons to registered Fun Run finishers. NOTE: Not advised if participating in 10K.

 

AWARDS: Podium Medals

9:15am in/11am out. Setup/assist emcee with handout of overall and age group medals during award ceremony.

 

BRUNCH: Bagel Delivery

6:15am pickup. Deliver in-kind bagel donation to Burns Park Run.

 

Food Prep (8)

6:15am in/ 8:00am out. Organize donated goods.

 

BRUNCH: Brunch Layout/Maintenance (4)

8:00am in/11am out. Move tables to field for post-race brunch. Set out and replenish prepped brunch items (as needed) for finishers. Change trash and recycle bags. Breakdown area post-event. NOTE: CANNOT be participating in the 5K or 10K.

 

COURSE SAFETY: Lead Biker (5)

7:45am in/10am out. MUST supply own bike. Clear course for lead male and female runners in the 5K and 10K; follow in last participant - notify 'all clear' to race directors. NOTE: CANNOT be participating in 5K or 10K.

 

PHOTOGRAPHY (2)

7:30am in/11am out. MUST supply own equipment. Photograph day's events (candid and posed). Volunteer photographers agree to allow use of images for event website/promotion but retain copyright of their images. NOTE: CANNOT be participating in 5K or 10K.

 

REGISTRATION: Late Registration (7)

6:45am in/8:15am out. Assist participants with registration. Sell surplus t-shirts.
