Mercer Island Girl Scouts
As a thank you to Mercer Island Presbyterian Church for meeting and storage space, Mercer Island Girl Scouts will be supporting one of MIPC's charity partners: Plymouth Housing. Plymouth Housing's mission is to eliminate homelessness and address its causes by preserving, developing, and operating safe, quality, supportive housing and by providing adults experiencing homelessness with opportunities to stabilize and improve their lives. Here's a 2 minute video about Myrtle's Story and a longer 8 minute video about all of Plymouth's Programs. Note that the longer video deals with the mature issues and may not be appropriate for all kids to watch.
When we talked to Plymouth Housing on Stewart about how we could help, they suggested that many of their residents don't often get home-baked cookies and would love to receive them! That's where Mercer Island Girl Scouts come in. Here's what you can do:
1. Sign up to be the Bakers of the Week. We have every week available between Oct. 7 to June 15 - that's 37 slots! Talk with your daughter about why and for whom you are baking cookies. It's something small to help those who are homeless in our community.
2. Bake two dozen cookies or more (any kind is fine - nuts okay) and put them in a container that you don't need to get back. Cookies do not need to be individually wrapped. Please put a label on your cookies if they contain common allergy ingredients such as nuts.
3. Deliver these cookies between ANYTIME (DESK OPEN 7 DAYS/24 HRS) but preferably Monday-Friday (8am-6pm) to the Front Desk at Plymouth on Stewart (116 Stewart Street, downtown Seattle near Pike Place Market). Make sure to label that the cookies are to be held and delivered to Sofia Hussein and from the Girl Scouts. You can temporarily park your car right in front on Stewart between 1st and 2nd Streets while you drop off the cookies. Tell them you are from Girl Scouts. Make sure you go to the Plymouth location on Stewart Street - they have 15 locations in Seattle!
4. Thank you for supporting Plymouth Housing and I hope that you enjoy this All Island Philanthropy Project! Questions? Contact Kathy McDonald at 206.356.4787.
