St. Joseph Parish
During the season of Advent, individuals or families are invited to carry the Advent candles to the wreath as part of the entrance procession.
If children will be participating with carrying the candles, they must be old enough to hold them on their own–the candles are 3 in. x 18 in. and therefore fairly heavy for a small child. If a family is participating, the entire family is encouraged to walk in the procession, even if each person is not carrying a candle. Adults should be the only ones to place the candle(s) in the wreath because of the height. The priest or another minister can also assist with placing the candles.
On each of the Sundays, the candles coming forward in the procession will be lit.
Before Mass begins, stand near the baptismal font and receive your candle(s). The priest will give you a cue when to start walking down the center aisle during the Gathering Song. You will not wait at the base of the altar platform with the priest and altar servers, but simply walk to the front right corner of the church where the Advent wreath is located to place the candle(s) and then walk to your seats.
