Hi Pack 1592 Families,
Come join us for a fall family hike at the Donner Memorial State Park. The trail is well maintained, scenic and along the lake most of the way. The trail has no elevation gain.
Where: Donner Memorial State Park, 12593 Donner Pass Rd, Truckee, CA
When: Saturday, October 17th, meet at 8:45AM at Safeway (Woodcreek and Blue Oaks)
Who: All scouts, including friends and family
Trail Distance: 3.0 miles round trip
Trail Difficulty: Easy
Trail Description: Flat and scenic trail
Meeting Place: South side of Safeway parking lot (near gas station). Participating families will meet here. We will try to be on the road by 9:00 AM
What to bring: Class B uniform, closed-toed shoes, water, hat, packed lunch/some snacks. We will have lunch at mid-way point of the hike. There is a beach, picnic tables, and restroom mid-way.
Directions: Follow I-80 E to Truckee. Take exit 184 from I-80 E. Turn right onto Donner Pass Rd. Destination will be on the Left.
Parking: There is free parking on Donner Pass Road adjacent to the visitor center, otherwise it's $8.
Trail Gathering: We will gather in the parking lot in front of the visitor center.
After the hike you may want to stop by the Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center. It takes about 1 hour to visit. It depicts the history of the area and the people who came into this part of the Sierra, including local Native Americans, the Donner Party, and builders of the transcontinental railroad.
