Bill Burden Watch DOGS
Thank you for you interest. The first step is getting the background check done with the school. Here's a quick rundown of the program.
The Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) is designed to increase the presence of positive male role models during the school day. While we primarily aim for fathers, a positive male role model could be grandfathers, uncles, big brothers, etc. You would volunteer a full school day - The "Watch Dog of the Day" would arrive when the children are arriving 7:15 - 7:30. You will receive an orientation from the office and then start greeting kids as they get off buses or help unload cars. There is a daily schedule that you would follow, for example, you might go to 4th grade PE followed by 2st grade Art or Music. The Watch Dog is essentially a volunteer parent helping teachers and students throughout the school. You would get to eat lunch with your child and also visit your child's classroom for 30 minutes or so. And then at the end of the day, you would help load buses and cars and say good bye to all the kids.
The Watch DOGS program has two goals, (1) to increase positive male role models in school and (2) to help enhance school security while reducing bullying. Thanks again for signing up and good luck with the kids - make the best of your time with them. **Note even if you participated last year and did the background check you must do it every year. It is available online on the LHISD website under volunteers. Please get this filled out ASAP if you plan to volunteer anytime this year. The sooner the better. Thank you!!!***** Also if you would like to do half a day instead of a full day just add (half a day) next to your name.
