Family Promise at RPC Volunteers
Family Promise Week at RPC!
Family Promise week is back! - May 12 - 19 The success of Family Promise North Fulton/Dekalb depends on the efforts and enthusiasm of hundreds of volunteers. Without volunteers, there would be no Family Promise ministry!
Below is a description of each volunteer opportunity so you can best decide how you could serve this amazing ministry at RPC. Scroll beyond the descriptions to sign up your time, your talent or your offering. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
NEW OPPORTUNITY: Don't want to spend the night? Become a Saturday Day Host - Be onsite to assist families if needed during one of the three hour shifts so that families do not have to leave the building on Saturday. Mid-day host will need to help with lunch.
Move In - immediately after the 11:15 worship service, volunteers gather in the South Tower to unload beds and guests belongings, from the Family Promise truck, and move them into the guest/host rooms in the Elementary wing above the Fellowship Hall. The classroom furniture is rearranged to provide space for the beds, boxes and suitcases.
Room Setup - once all beds and belongings are moved into the guest rooms (12:30), volunteers make beds, put out towels and toiletries and generally make a warm and comfortable environment for our guests for the week.
Dinner Preparers - a hot meal is provided and served each evening around 6:30. Meals can be prepared by one or more families and should be dropped off in the Family Promise Diniing Room/Alderman Hall by 6:30pm each day. Meal preparers are also invited, but not obligated, to stay and enjoy the meal and fellowship with our guests from 6:30 until around 7:30pm once everything is put away and cleaned-up for the next day.
Dinner Hosts - volunteers, who may or may not have generously provided the evening meal, are invited to enjoy dinner, assist with Set up ,Serving & clean-up and spend time socializing, helping with homework, playing with the children or assisting a guest with a particular need. It is an formal and fun time to enjoy great food and get to know our guests.
Overnight / Breakfast Hosts - a minimum of two volunteers, preferably a male and female, will spend the night onsite at RPC. Yes, you do actually get to sleep! A bed is provided for you, but bring your linens and your own pillow. Overnight hosts are asked to arrive no later than 8pm, but are also invited to arrive earlier and enjoy the evening meal as well. Overnight hosts generally have the opportunity to spend some time playing games, watching a movie with the families before bedtime. Overnight hosts are asked to setup and stay through breakfast the next morning and until the families leave for work/school by 7:30am and everything is put away and cleanup for the day. Breakfast is quick and simple (cereal, oatmeal, bagels, juice, etc) so our guests and hosts can started with their day. If an overnight hosts needs to leave early to get to their own job, another volunteer can be asked to help with the morning routine. Hosts are there overnight primarily to help in the event of any issues that arise.
Breakfast & lunch foods/snacks/miscellaneous supplies - There is a separate sign-up sheet particularly for other food and supplies needed, not including dinner. If you are interested in contributing in this way, please click on the link below to be re-directed to that signup sheet or send an email to [email protected] and we will send you the link.
Move out and reset - volunteers are needed to assist with loading the beds and guests belongings into the Family Promise truck and also to help reset the Elementary classrooms for Sunday School. This takes place on Sunday morning from 7:00am - 8:15am, and is a great opportunity if you are a regular for 8:15 Worship!
Laundry - All towels, sheets, blankets, comforters, etc... were donated to RPC and are re-used for each host week. Volunteers are needed at the end of the host week to take a load (or two) of linens home to launder and return before the next host week. Bags of laundry can be picked-up in the hallway to the right of the Fellowship Hall. Please return clean laundry to the family promise closet or the multi-purpose closet behind the coffee station. The Family Promise closet will be unlocked for two weeks following our host date.
Please sign-up for each opportunity that applies to you... for example, if you are both preparing the meal AND staying to enjoy dinner and fellowship, sign-up in the dinner preparer and dinner & fellowship host slots or if you are an overnight host who plans on joining us for dinner, sign-up in the dinner & fellowship host AND in the overnight host slots. This helps us to better know how many people to prepare dinner for.
If you would like to be removed from this distribution list for future Family Promise Volunteer Opportunities, please send an email to [email protected]
Additional information will be sent to those who sign-up prior to your assigned date.
