Program Description: The abilitySTRONG Parade is San Antonio’s inaugural Disability Pride Celebration. This parade is a public expression of the belief that disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity in which people living with disabilities can take pride. Held on the streets of downtown San Antonio, where many parades have taken place, this event demonstrates our efforts to “develop a whole community of people with disabilities and allies who are proud to be who we are, who do not see ourselves as victims, who expect more from ourselves and those within our community, and who are committed to building an inclusive community that recognizes the dignity, humanity, and worth of all people.”

The abilitySTRONG Parade…a Disability Pride Celebration will tell the story of inclusion, strength, and highlights the history and advancements for the disability community.

Volunteers are needed to assist with parade staging, pooper scoopers, parade route cheer teams, parade promotion efforts, water station hosts, first aid stations, and more!

Groups and individuals are welcome to participate.

The AccessAbility fest offers a gateway to resources, opportunities and recreation for individuals facing barriers to their maximum level of independence due to a physical, developmental, sensory and/or mental health challenges. The 13th Annual AccessAbility fest will kick-off after the Inaugural abilitySTRONG Parade along the streets of downtown San Antonio and features over 140 exhibitors with information, products, programs and services that promote independence and inclusion where individuals with disabilities live, work and play. This FREE celebration includes live entertainment, activities for the whole family to enjoy, demonstrations, and food purchase options.

Proceeds from this event support charitable, non-profit programs that improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities in our local community throughout the year under disABILITYsa, a local 501(c)(3) disability service organization.
