Bring Cheer in the New Year: LHC's Month of Service Project

In recognition of MLK's Day of Service initiative, LHC is coordinating this annual project effort to run for a month (from January 18 through February 14).  Individuals are feeling more isolated than ever, as a result of COVID, along with the post-holiday winter months, especially those that may be in settings such as assisted living communities, nursing homes, and care facilities.

LHC appreciates your interest to participate in this effort to connect and reach out by writing a simple note (on either generic homemade or bought cards) and/or sending a hand-drawn picture to someone as a simple gesture of care.  To sign up, click on the respective button below and remember to share this information with your own circles (fellow class members, work teams, neighbors, friends, acquaintances, religious groups, etc.) and encourage their participation, as well.

Once you register, a follow up confirmation email will follow and contain respective facility contact information, as well as any special requests re: delivery.  In addition, specific facilities will also be emailed the name/email of their respective registered volunteer so they will know who to expect any communication from. Please note that the expectation is on our registrants to deliver/mail the cards/pictures - please do NOT deliver to LHC. Also, if facilities request items to be mailed, please send your assigned "batch" in a consolidated envelope to simplify distribution for our groups.  In addition, it will be helpful to add a note that the enclosed contents are on behalf of LHC's Cheer in the New Year Service Project.

Remember, being a virtual opportunity, we'd like folks to share pictures of creation in action - take pictures of your own "writing party" or during delivery.  You may email pictures to Karen Bryant or share on social media, be sure to tag LHC using the hashtag #LHCCardsofCheer.

________________

Special thanks to the Howard County Office on Aging Ombudsman Program staff for facilitating initial contact with many of our groups.

Please email Karen Bryant if you have any questions and THANK YOU!!!!
