Join us the first Sunday of every month to make lunches to feed the hungry in Chicago. This family-friendly activity requires grocery shopping (approximately $40) in preparation for the lunch assembly and delivery.
There are two sign up options:
- Make lunches at Temple Jeremiah, then help deliver the lunches to Chicago.
- Drop off your lunches at Temple Jeremiah.
To make lunches at Temple Jeremiah, then help deliver the lunches to Chicago:
A Feed the Hungry Committee member will call you the Wednesday before your shift with a grocery list of items to bring to the temple kitchen at 10:30 a.m. sharp on the Sunday of your shift. Join other Temple Jeremiah members and families in the temple kitchen to assemble the lunches that you will drive down and distribute to the recipients of The Greater Bethlehem Healing Temple (12 South Oakley Boulevard, Chicago, 60612) in Chicago.
This wonderful opportunity is limited by kitchen space. Each Sunday can accommodate 5-7 families or approximately 20+ individual members. When you sign up, please sign up for the number of people in your party that will be making lunches in the temple kitchen, as well as the best contact information to reach you including your email and cell phone number.
Should you have any questions, please contact Mindy Kurtz at [email protected].
To drop off lunches at Temple Jeremiah:
Please consider dropping off pre-made lunches (including 2 sandwiches with any lunch meat, 1 bag of chips, 1 piece of fruit, and 2 cookies) outside the west doors (the circle drive) by 11:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of the month.
Please note that each drop off slot is for 20 lunches, therefore if you are packing 80 lunches for the month please sign up for four drop off slots to help event organizers plan accurately. Our goal is to collect approximately 400 lunches every month. If all the slots are full please consider signing up for a future month to spread out the donations, although of course we will never turn away lunches so you are still welcome to drop off what you have prepared.
Your participation is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Please note: Given the changing nature of the COVID-19 global pandemic, we will follow the procedures set forth by the COVID-19 task force at Temple Jeremiah. This may include participants being masked, gloved, and temperatures being taken. We might also have to pivot to physically distanced procedures.
