“Encountering God, Struggling with God, and Finding Newness in God through the metaphor of Pilgrimage”
Each year the people of Highland Presbyterian Church write for devotion book for Lent. This year’s theme is “Encountering God, Struggling with God, and Finding Newness in God through the metaphor of Pilgrimage.” The year’s weekly lectionary focusses mostly on the Gospel of Matthew, with a heavy dose of John thrown in. Our Lenten Study will be based on the book “The Pilgrim’s Compass: Finding and Following the God we Seek,” authored by Paul H. Lang (WJP). It will challenge us to think of Pilgrimage as both a metaphor for our lives, and as a means to find the meaning of our faith in unfamiliar places among fellow sojourners.
Please consider selecting one of the recommended scripture texts and writing a brief devotion that relates a personal story, an example of personal faith formation, or some element of wisdom that you have discerned as you have encountered God, struggled with God, or found newness in God. Feel free to submit a photo with a simple statement if it captures your thoughts. Please conclude your devotional with a one sentence prayer. It would be helpful if devotionals could be emailed to Rob by Monday, February 17, 2020 ([email protected]).
