MSF Reading Challenge
The Mason Schools Foundation will host their annual Reading Challenge (MECC, ME and MI) beginning January 14th. We are in need of volunteers for the below activities to ensure a successful and fun event for the students and schools:
PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF NEW VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:Safety is always top of mind in Mason City Schools. In an effort to create an environment that is both safe and inviting, we are making a few changes to our process for guests and volunteers after consultation with our City of Mason Campus Safety Team and Safe & Inviting Schools Council.
Guests visiting our school buildings during the day must complete the acknowledgment of expectations while in the building. This will appear when completing the Lobby Guard process. In addition, guests will be asked to leave an ID in the office while visiting to be returned when they sign out of Lobby Guard. This allows us to know who is in the building in the event of an emergency.
Volunteers, too, must complete the acknowledgment of expectations. In addition, volunteers need to complete a background check. The cost is $16 and it is good for 5 years and covers all of our schools and events (does not include overnight trips). Background checks are completed at Mason Central in the HR Offices. The information can be mailed in. If you include your telephone number we will call to get your social security number so it is not written on your documentation. While the results are usually returned immediately, they can take up to four weeks if the results are mailed. Week 1: January 14-17 (Tuesday-Friday)
REVIEW READING TRACKERS - Volunteers will help add up books read by the students and determine a daily class winner for each grade. MECC's goal is to read 200,000 books!
Week 2: January 21-24 (Tuesday-Friday)
PRIZE PREPARATION - Volunteers will help organize and distribute the prizes students earn.
MONEY COUNTING - Volunteers will help count the money the students bring in each day.
VIP EVENT- Mrs Bly has selected the evening of Thursday, January 30th (from 6:00-8:00 pm) to host the VIP event for her school. In the event we have a snow-day on January 30th the VIP will take place on Tuesday, February 4th.
