Genesis/Kensington/Cana 2022 Warming Center
NEW INFORMATION: Due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant, there is a higher probability of COVID transmission than last year, based on information from the Oakland County Health Department. Please consider this as you're signing up for volunteer shifts. Only sign up if comfortable with these conditions. Having your vaccines and booster shot is the best defense against these conditions. Thank you for considering to volunteer during these difficult times!
OVERNIGHT HOSTS are the Warming Center's biggest need. Hosts will work in teams of 2, to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests while they are in our facility. Overnight Hosts are in charge after all other volunteers have left the building. You must be over 18 and no longer in high school to serve as an Overnight Host.
FIRST SHIFT - 6:30pm-2:00am
SECOND SHIFT - 1:45am-7:15am (8:15am Weekends)
PLEASE NOTE: The second shift begins immediatly after the first shift and is technically in the early morning of the next day.
There may be slight adjustments to shift times. More details will be made available in January.
Health and Safety at the Warming Center
Similar to last year, this year's Warming Center will include a variety of safety protocols, including temperature checks, mandatory mask wearing (guests and volunteers), PPE provided, curtained sleeping areas for guests, fewer guests and volunteers, and weekly COVID testing for all guests. All guests will be vaccinated or have a recent negative COVID test. All volunteers are encouraged to be vaccinated and are required to wear masks. Free COVID testing for volunteers is also offered at the Welcome Inn once a week. (Testing details will be provided via email when available.)
To help keep guests and volunteers safe, please do not come to the Warming Center if you aren't feeling well, if you have tested positive for COVID-19, or have been in close contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days. (Close contact is greater than 15 minutes within 6 feet over a 24-hour period.) Please contact the volunteer coordinator and let them know as soon as possible, so a sub can be located to take your place.
Mandatory Training will take place on Sunday Jan. 16th from 12:30-2:00pm at Genesis and also
live on Zoom. (Link will be emailed the week before the Training, and the Training will be
recorded and available afterwards.)
