We are delighted to announce the 2019 schedule for our Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer Program, and open up slots for pro bono attorneys to volunteer for this incredible pro bono opportunity. As a reminder, volunteers enjoy free access to our impressive complement of CLEs. During a 2- or 3-hour shift, 4-5 volunteer attorneys and 1 Legal Aid Center staff attorney will provide free 15-minute consultations to individuals in need of legal advice. If you’d first like to shadow another attorney during their consultations, let us know and we’ll be happy to schedule a time.
At each event, we register approximately fifty individual litigants each week (although the need is much higher, many are turned away to register for the following week’s program) who have questions about family law issues including custody, divorce, guardianship, adoption, name change, etc.
When: Every Thursday from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Fourth Tuesdays from 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Where: Outside of Courtroom 8 (Thursdays) & Family Law Self-Help Center (Tuesdays) at Family Court, 601 N. Pecos Road
Training: Volunteer Manual and extensive Training Materials Available. Also, volunteers enjoy free attendance at our renowned CLEs. In exchange for training materials, we ask that you commit to a minimum of two volunteer shifts with the Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer program. Of course, we hope you’ll enjoy this opportunity and continue to volunteer.
Volunteers, please review the attached Family Law New Volunteer Manual. This short manual includes additional information about the program and community resources. Please be sure to review the manual before you volunteer.
Volunteers, when you arrive for your slot, kindly sign-in with Legal Aid Center staff on the second floor outside of Courtroom 8 when you arrive, and you will be directed to a conference room to begin your consultations.
Also, if it has been a while since you last volunteered, or if you are new to the Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer program, please review the attached Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer Manual prior to your volunteer shift.
Finally, if your schedule changes and you are unable to volunteer during your scheduled shift, please let us know immediately by calling (702) 386-1413, so that we can try to find a replacement volunteer.
Thank you so much for your participation!
