German School of the East Bay
Watching the students during their "pause" is the most important part of the yard duty. Volunteers check premises around building before and after classroom break and make sure that grounds are safe for children. During break, volunteers supervise children, direct in- and egressing traffic, and ensure that noise level remains within acceptable range. Please refer to the break schedule posted in the library and ring the bell when needed. At the end of the shift please check the grounds and pick up any trash, dishes and other items. Sign in the in the white binder located in the kitchen. The shift is from 10:15 to 11:45 p.m. Please, wear the "uniform" provided. Please read these guidelines before your shift:
GSEB Yard Duty Guidelines
Watching the students during their “Pause” is the most important part of yard duty.
Please keep your focus on our children
DO NOT talk on your cell phone, email or text during yard duty.
Stay on the same side of the parking lot as the GSEB building.
Run in the yard around the side of the school building.
Write with chalk on the sidewalks and driveway next to the school building.
Students MAY NOT:
NOT allowed in the flower/shrubbery beds. Students may not step on plants or pick flowers.
NOT look in the windows of the apartments in the Altenheim
Sit, climb or play on the fire escape stairs at the back of the building.
Run around parked cars.
Remind Students to:
Throw away their trash in the bins provided. If you find trash on the ground at the end of yard duty, please pick it up and throw it away.
Watch the time, return to class on time and to do so quickly.
