Help Conestoga reduce waste and make a useful soil amendment to put back on the garden!
Sign up once or multiple times to help out in October.
The following information will be posted in the cafeteria for your reference.
Cafeteria compost helpers assist students in the following ways:
Help students determine what goes in the compost buckets vs. the trash.
- Only raw fruit and veggie scraps.
- No juices or fruit cups.
- Salad scraps with a little bit of dressing are OK, but too much dressing should be sent to the trash. Use your judgment.
While students are eating, feel free to walk around with scissors to help students open bags of apples or carrots. Talk about what things can be composted.
If you feel comfortable, encourage students to eat or at least try their fruits and veggies - nothing forceful or pushy, just provide a positive word of encouragement.
Direct students to line up behind the wagon and do your best to keep them moving.
Students should pick up the items to be composted from their trays and drop them in the bucket.
- No turning trays upside down to dump.
- Encourage responsible behavior "If you drop something... pick it up."
Mrs. Crosby's IU13 students will empty the buckets in the garden compost bins and the Garden Eco Club will manage the bins.
Thanks for your help!
