For auditions, please prepare 16 – 32 bars of a Broadway-style song that showcases your voice, preferably in the style of the show or character(s) for which you are auditioning. An accompanist will be available at the audition; please provide sheet music for your song choice. Please do not bring a device or CD to play a track for your audition, and do not plan to sing a cappella.
This show is an ALL-FEMALE CAST. Please see character descriptions below for more information. Women of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to audition.
A short dance combination will be taught and we will be asking folks to perform a time step. We are not asking for tap dancing afficionados, just a simple time step. Please wear clothes which are comfortable to move in.
Auditionees may be asked to do a cold reading of a side from the show; it is not necessary to prepare a monologue. We will not be accepting video auditions. We prefer that auditionees are available for callbacks, however, it is possible that callbacks may not be required.
If you are interested in auditioning and any of the guidelines above are an issue, or if additional considerations are needed, we will do our best to work with you; please reach out to the Director and Asst. Director in this case. We cannot promise that every situation will be accommodated, but please reach out if you have any concerns.

Please note that “Tech Week”, "Patient Night" and "Strike" (dates above) are mandatory, and conflicts for those dates, as well as performance dates, will not be accepted. We strongly prefer auditionees to not be involved in overlapping productions during the rehearsal process; we will do our best to work around schedules and conflicts, but be aware that availability may be crucial in casting. Please be prepared to provide all known conflicts on your audition form, or fill it out on the audition form prior to arrival.
If auditioning for a specific role, please email us at [email protected] to let us know; we will provide sheet music cuts that will be used if you are called back for that role. We will also provide an audition form that can be filled out and sent back to us prior to auditions. If you have a resume and/or head-shot, please feel free to provide these to us via email as well.
Rehearsals will begin mid-June and will rehearse three to four days a week. Rehearsals are currently planned for Sunday afternoons, Monday and Wednesday evenings, with possible Thursday evenings closer to Tech Week. Other rehearsal specifics will be communicated and planned after casting.
Nunsense is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser. Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia. Thus, the remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo, street-wise Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert – stage a talent show in order to raise the money to bury their dearly departed.
Sister Mary Regina - Age 40-?
Mother Superior. She is outrageous, quick-witted, knows how to get a laugh. Comes off a strict no-nonsense authority, but is a big softy underneath. Vocal range: F(3)-D(5). Jazzy/Swing vocal style.
Sister Mary Hubert - Age 30-45
Kind; always tries to be understanding and diplomatic. Coaches the Novices. She should be dignified, but ready to let loose at the slightest encouragement. Vocal range: F(3)-C(5), Belty Gospel style is a must.
Sister Robert Anne - Age 25-45
A tough streetwise nun who has a heart of gold. Adored by the younger generation because she speaks their language. A constant source of aggravation for Mother Superior. Vocal range: F#(3)-F(5). Should be comfortable using a belt as well as classical mezzo vocal style.
Sister Mary Amnesia - Age 25-45
The picture of innocence. Amnesia lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head and can't remember her past; she looks at each day with a childlike joy. She has a puppet alter-ego named Sister Mary Annette (ventriloquism and puppet experience are a plus but not required), Vocal range: G(3)-D(6). Amnesia must be capable of a classic high soprano style, belty Broadway, as well as Country vocal styles.
Sister Mary Leo - Age 20 - 40
A former professional dancer who is always eager to display her talent. She is very impressionable, and entered the convent to become the first ballerina nun. Vocal range: Mezzo.
