Apex Band will NOT be working at all events on this sign up. ALL DATES ARE TENTATIVE UNTIL CONFIRMED. Please only sign up for dates you can work; the dates that have the most people signed up will be officially selected. Please sign up as an extra for events. If we have extras, we may be able to pick up an extra cart and have flexibility with scheduling. When specific dates are confirmed with PNC, workers will be notified. If you sign up for a date that AHS Band does not end up working, you will be notified so you DO NOT attend. More events (NC State Basketball, concerts) will be added at a later date.
Apex Band Boosters and Alumni: Come and earn money for your student’s band account by working at the PNC Arena! Apex Band Boosters will most likely be working a Dip n Dots and Breyer's Ice Cream stands for a majority of the events. Some events we will work a Gourmet Pretzel Cart. Each person needs to sign up for themselves and in the comment box - please put the name of the band student that you will be working for.
Description of Work: We scoop Dip N Dots and Breyer's Ice Cream. We count beginning and ending inventories, operate cash registers, prep and serve food, and clean the stand after closing. On occasion we work one of the gourmet pretzel stands. You are on your feet for the entire duration of the event. You do get one short break during the event.
- PLAIN Black slacks, Black Pants or Black Trousers are to be worn. No other fashion pant clothing will be accepted. NO JEANS, NO CARGO PANTS, NO CAPRIS and NO CORDUROY PANTS are allowed.
- PLAIN Short Sleeve Black Polo with No Logos.
- Black closed-toe/heel shoes. Shoes have to be black
- Black hat (provided at event)
- Band Booster apron (provided at event).
Cart Leaders represent Apex Band Boosters while at the venue as well as interact with PNC/VAB Catering - this also includes leading the close out activities such as reconciling the cash, sales and inventory at the end of the evening (with everyone's assistance!).
Cart Leaders MUST have experience operating the stand, if you are unsure of how to operate the stand please sign up for the "Cart Worker" slots, and tell the Stand Leader that you want to be trained. We need more people to be trained to be a cart leader! We need one cart leader per event
Most of the events we operate a Dip ‘N’ Dots and/or Breyer's ice cream cart, so workers can arrive no later than 45 minutes before doors open as there are only a few items to count and get ready for the event. For hockey games, stands and carts are closed shortly after the 3rd period begins. For NC State B-ball games, stands and carts are closed shortly after halftime. This is when closing inventory, cashing out and cleaning begins. No one can leave until this is completed. The Cart leader takes the money and receipts to the cash and business offices after the game. When a cart worker is training as a stand leader, he/she goes with the stand leader 1 or 2 times before leading a cart.
NOTE: Anyone signed up to work an event MUST show up to work as scheduled. If you find you cannot work a date that you signed up for, YOU MUST find another parent to cover your shift (use the SWAP option to ask another parent to swap with you) BEFORE THE GATE LIST IS SENT IN. Gate List is sent in 4 days prior to the event date. If you must do this after the gatelist is submitted, let Christine Or Karen (Backup) know so the gate list can be updated otherwise the person who takes your place may not be able to gain entry. Under no circumstances should ANYONE contact PNC/VAB catering. The PNC coordinator will communicate any changes to the gatelist with PNC/VAB catering . There is also a place for people to sign up as “Extra Workers” if the assigned number of workers has been filled. These people can be used to swap with.
How Staffing Works: We usually need 3 people to staff an Ice Cream cart; 1 stand leader and 2 workers. Sometimes only 2 are needed if there is no Breyers to sell. Pretzel Carts need 3 also.
Payment: Each worker is paid a minimum of $45 for every hockey game and NC State B-ball game as long as all assigned workers show up for their shift. If 10% of sales is greater than the $45 minimum, all workers will get paid more. For all other events (concerts, Disney on Ice, shows), workers will only be paid 10% commission (No minimum).
Parking & PNC Entrance: For most shows, workers will carpool together. If you are working your first time, please consider carpool so you will know where to park and learn check in procedures. All non-profit volunteers will park in the employee parking lot by entering Gate C off of Trinity Road (Carter Finley parking lot).
Volunteers will check in with security and give them the name Apex High School. Then, sign in at the volunteer check-in before proceeding to the cart. Stay tuned for document that explains more about the check-in process
