The start of school is an exciting time, you will see your children grow and develop new skills. We all understand the importance of reading. Reading is a fundamental skill that needs to be nurtured in your child’s life. You can help cultivate this skill and grow their spiritual development at the same time. It is proven that reading to your child, helps their ability to read. Your child is ready to go on a reading adventure through the Bible. On September 22nd during the Sunday School hour, FUMC will have a special time with parents and children to celebrate this reading milestone. Reading the Bible is of great importance in our spiritual development and what better way to encourage that than to give a child an age appropriate story Bible. This is a rite of passage for our children as they grow into a more grown-up participation in their faith. We invite you, as a family, to participate in this special occasion. We will gather as parents first at 9:45 am to have a brief discussion and then invite the children in at 10:30 to receive their Bible and talk about how they are ready to worship.
Ready to Worship is more than just receiving their story Bible. Consider this class and the presentation of Bibles another rite of passage for the children of our church as they grow and develop in their faith journey (much like Confirmation). Ready to Worship is to encourage us all to model for children that they are ready to be an active part of worship at church and at home. It will be important for you and your child that you make a commitment to be present each week. Keep in mind that Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday! Your child can only benefit from Sunday School class if they are present, and on time.
During Sunday School the children explore the Bible in fun and exciting ways. The Godly Play curriculum is a creative approach to teach Bible stories and theological meaning. Through Godly Play children begin to cultivate larger dimensions of belief and faith through wondering and play. It has a Montessori foundation, which values openness, discovery, community and relationships. It models the worship life, stories, symbols and rituals of Christian congregations. In addition during Sunday School, gathering time, and Wednesday evenings, we will be working on learning the books of the Bible.
You are also encouraged to continue your study of the Bible by participating in a Sunday School class or small group study of your own. If they see you reading your Bible, they too will want to read theirs. Children learn by observing. Watching you encourages their faith journey. But they learn even more by participating, so let them follow along in worship. So keep coming. Keep trying. We’re glad you’re here. Your child is welcome in worship and we are all blessed when we worship together.
Please sign-up or let Kristi, [email protected], know if you will be attending on the 22nd. If your family will not be able to be present, please contact me so that your child may receive their Bible at a later date.
Please put in the comments or email the spelling of your child’s name to Kristi by September 9th. If you would like to contribute, the cost of the Bible is $8, the Jesus Story Book Bible.
