Food to the Rescue
Volunteers are vital to the success of Food to the Rescue. We are in need of volunteers to donate their time to assist in delivering the food to the children's homes as well as un-boxing, packing, and organizing the food bags to go out for delivery.
un-boxing- When we order bulk food, it comes in big boxes, and then smaller boxes. We need to get all that food out of those boxes so we can individually pack each snack. We then line up the snacks in packing order. 30 min to an hour of your time would be greatly appreciated. Fun for ALL ages!
packing- Once all the food/snacks are un-boxed and organized, we start packing the food into bags. We normally have school or youth groups do this because its a faster assembly line process. We do also need Adults and or High School aged kids to count and organize bags as they are filled. Takes about an hour to hour and half
organizing- Once all food bags are packed, we then proceed to make piles (organized piles) for each route. (1 route may consist of 3-5 homes, and each home has on average 3 kids. So we make piles with the correct number of bags that the delivery driver will need to deliver on that route) We label each pile with the route and addresses so its ready to load into the delivery drivers vehicle when they arrive. Takes about an hour and half or two, ADULTS ONLY PLEASE
DELIVERY DRIVER- The MOST IMPORTANT JOB OF ALL! We currently serve 650ish kids. That is over 45 routes all over Putnam Co (excluding Monterey, we do things differently up there) Each route has 3-5 homes which you will receive the address to deliver the food directly to the children. Don't worry, We will give you instructions before we send you out.
Basically you will sign in when you arrive, then we will load food bags and boxes into your car and give you the addresses to where you'll deliver. We ask that you call the home to let them know you are on your way. a simple "Hi, I'm a volunteer with Food to the Rescue, and I'm on my way to your home to deliver food to your child." The majority of our recipients have been on our program for a while and are used to having a volunteer deliver food to their home. Plus we've called and confirmed the address ahead of delivery.
Once you arrive to the home, as long as you feel comfortable, you will give the food to the family and va-la! it's that easy!
Please consider helping, not only us, but a child that otherwise may not have food during the Break. Most of the recipients are EXTREMELY thankful, and it'll brighten your day to see the excitement on the Childs face when they receive their food!
You will need a current background check. (If you've had one in the last year by another organization, church, work, etc, Please let us know. If not, we will run one for you, its a simple process, NO PAPERWORK!) We will also need a copy of your DL, and auto insurance. (If you've not given it to us before and there are no changes in your info) Time from signing in, loading car and delivering food may take an hour to hour and half, at the most two. MUST BE 18yrs+ to Drive. ALL AGES WELCOME TO RIDE ALONG!
