Meal Volunteers

Meals from the Heart Program

The Meals from the Heart Program provides guest families with a warm, home-cooked meal after a long day at the hospital. The food provides nourishment that aides healing and provides comfort for their souls.

Volunteering at AHHH is going to look different compared to pre-COVID-19.

We have developed new protocols that will keep volunteers, staff, and our families safe.

Our Covid Policies include:

  1. All volunteers must wear a face covering during their shift at the House.
  2. Group size will be limited to 10 people and will be split up into smaller groups based on social distancing requirements. We will be limiting the number of people in the kitchen at one time.
  3. Volunteers will be temperature checked and screened prior to beginning their shift.

We are honored that you are interested in serving a meal to our families. This is a perfect opportunity for a small group, book club, office staff, scout troop, neighbors, sorority, fraternity, service club, singles group, mom's group, and friends to enjoy time together in food, fellowship and service. There is something powerful that happens when you sit down and hear the stories of our guests.

Please select a date or date(s) that work best for your group and sign up.

You will receive a confirmation email with further details about serving a meal.

Here are the details for serving a meal through the Meals from the Heart Program:

1)Volunteers purchase the food to cook, prepare and serve the food to guest families.

2)Due to Covid-19 and food safety precautions, all food must be prepared onsite or in a commercial kitchen at your school, church, or restaurant.

3)Dinner is served at 7:00pm each night.

4)Please plan on serving 10-25 people, but you can contact us closer to the date to find out an exact number

5)You can arrive any time after 3:00pm to begin cooking.

6)If you would like to drop off your items prior to going to the office, please contact us and let us know. We will set up a time for you for a drop off.

7)We ask that volunteers load the dishwashers, wash dishes, and clean up the kitchen after serving. Volunteers usually are out of the House by 8:00pm.

8)If you cannot stay and would like to just drop off the groceries or restaurant delivery, that is appreciated too.
