Pewaukee School District
PLE and Horizon teachers have developed a contact list of Experts—people willing to speak about their careers to 5K-6th graders, sharing insight into how you became interested in your current field, the opportunities, challenges, and required skill sets of your profession, and what your typical work day includes. We would also like to include interesting hobbies such as wood working, gardening or coin collecting for example.
There is no set schedule or actual program at this time, we simply want to have a resource if a classroom wants more information about being a dentist, policeman, cosmetologist, doctor, farmer, accountant, chef, lawyer, stamp collector, genealogist, etc. Some classes may request a brief 20 minute presentation followed by a student Q&A, while others may simply wish to submit class questions to be answered by the “Expert”. Presenters are welcome to use a power point, bring props or just stop in to share your insight.
If you enjoy your career or have a hobby you are passionate about, we’d like to add your name, email and phone number to a list for teachers to reach out to you as special projects arise. You don’t have to be a professional speaker to share information about your job, and you can accept or decline as requests are made. One of the biggest factors in a student’s decision to drop out of school comes from the fact that they do not see how their education is relevant to their daily and future lives. Let’s plant seeds at the elementary level, answering questions about the journey towards careers.
