Lamplighters Music Theatre
STAGE DIRECTOR - Céline Ricci
MUSIC DIRECTOR/CONDUCTOR - Mary Chun
Lamplighters Music Theatre is collaborating with Burwell & Sasser to develop a new work, By Georges! A Day in the Life of the Legendary Chevalier de Saint-Georges, which explores themes including race, class, and gender dynamics, funding for the arts, and stereotypical/toxic masculinity through a comedic and contemporary lens. This one-act operetta will utilize the full complement of Lamplighters' skill set including wit, humor, operatically trained voices, and strong acting capabilities.
A Spring day in 1776. The Chevalier de Saint-Georges is the newly appointed director of the Paris Opera. But all is not copacétique. His patron, the grand Madame de Sac d'Argent, unexpectedly and suddenly dies, taking the funding of The Chevalier's newest opera with her to the grave. To make matters worse, the Opera's lead soprano publicly states she will not work for The Chevalier, and to add insult to real potential injury he has three sword duels scheduled this afternoon for various matters of slighted honor that must be righted. What is a violin and rapier wielding musical raconteur to do? Clearly, fundraising must come first, for without it there is no art. But will the needed funds be secured from within the royal circle, or some other even less scrupulous source, and where will he find a new soprano? Art isn't easy, to quote a musical inspirateur of the 20th Century. This new opera will, by Georges, find a way to be borne.
We are looking for strong singer/actors for the following roles. Note that four roles are pre-cast. Some roles may be understudied. We strongly encourage performers of all ages and ethnicities to audition. The following are open to auditions:
