Volunteers
WHO: Our Neighbor's Place is a seasonal homeless shelter and is staying open for people experiencing homelessness starting November 18 through March 17. You will be required to follow all Covid-19 protocols to wear a mask, sanitize, and socially distance. Safety is key at all locations and the number of guests will be limited. Erie United Methodist Alliance (EUMA) will have a paid staff person on location at all times during this season to provide consistency and guidance across locations. Meals are only served on Saturdays and guests are encouraged to eat at Emmaus. A great number of regular volunteers are over age 65, and due to the virus, are unable to volunteer this year. Some churches will be in need of volunteers during their sessions.
WHERE AND WHEN: There are three churches that will rotate opening their facilities every two weeks: Mental Health Association (MHA), Church of the Covenant, and Church of the Nativity. Each day, there are 3 shifts; 7 pm - 11 pm, 11 pm - 3 am, 3 am - 7 am.
WHAT: All shifts are responsible for the supervision of guests, making sure general rules and COVID-related rules are followed. Cleaning will also need to be done regularly, wiping down all surfaces touched by anyone. Church coordinators and EUMA staff will direct needs during the first shift. EUMA will direct needs during the second and third shifts.
