La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE), Texas Civil Rights Project (TCRP) and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights will protest these wrongful actions that hurt the immigrant community of the Rio Grande Valley through a 24-hour hunger strike and prayer chain that will last 24 days, in honor of the more than 2,400 children separated from their parents.
Fasting as a means of nonviolent protest is a historic tool utilized by Cesar Chavez, the founder of La Union del Pueblo Entero, in resistance to the injustice faced by farm workers of Mexican descent. Cesar’s commitment to nonviolent protest, including his fasts, won the support and friendship of Robert F. Kennedy to the farm worker cause.
The chain here in the Rio Grande Valley consists of people receiving and passing a 24 hour fast at Archer Park in McAllen, TX then continuing with their daily activities. After the person's 24 hours are up, they will return to Archer Park and choose to either break and pass the fast to someone else, or continue fasting.
For Those Not In South Texas:

You, as well, may fast for 24 hours to then pass it on to someone and stop, or simply continue on your own. Please remove your spot as we are trying to keep track of people who are able to attend our program in person.
I have attached a document with helpful instructions on showing your support through the event website: https://www.breakbreadnotfamilies.org/ You can pass your fast by sharing the website or this sign up with everyone and hopefully, more people will support us in your region and in many others!
