Every summer, volunteers who are 13 to 17 years old called “VolunTeens”, assist the staff at Squirrels Summer Day Camp at Crown Valley Park in Laguna Niguel. Squirrels Camp provides a variety of fun recreation activities and an excursion for campers entering 1st through 3rd grades.
VolunTeens must commit to participate in one week of camp and attend the mandatory training on Thursday, June 13 from 10am to 12pm. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the VolunTeen will assist during the morning shift from 8:00am to 12:30pm or the afternoon shift from 12:30pm to 4:45pm. (The afternoon shift includes swimming.) On Wednesday, both shifts will accompany the camp on an excursion all day from 8:00am to 4:45pm.
The shifts that are still available are listed below. Please select ALL shifts for which you would be available to volunteer and then download and complete the application. Applications will be accepted until June 5 or until all shifts are filled. Applications signed by the VolunTeen and their parent/guardian must be brought or mailed to the Parks and Recreation registration office at Crown Valley Park, 29751 Crown Valley Parkway (open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm). Space is limited and priority will be given to early applicants and to Laguna Niguel residents.
Please note that we schedule only one VolunTeen per shift and that each VolunTeen is assigned only one shift each summer so we can give the opportunity to as many students as possible. We will contact all applicants either to assign them a shift or to let them know that all of their available shifts are already filled. If you have questions, please contact Sheila Huettl, Recreation Coordinator at (949) 425-5100.
Volunteer service hours will be awarded for the shift and the mandatory VolunTeen training.
There will be an optional Medieval Games Day on Friday, August 9 open to all available VolunTeens who are also assigned a regular shift. Please select this option also, if you are available.
Thank you for applying to volunteer at Squirrels Camp!
