*Registration is CLOSED for 2020
Skijor Skowhegan, presented by Baxter Brewing Co., is the only equestrian skijor team time-trial race in New England. A horse and rider will pull an alpine skier or snowboarder, at speeds up to 30 MPH, through a 1,000-foot course with jumps and gates.
The race will be held on February 29 (rain date March 7) at the Skowhegan State Fairgrounds.
There are two divisions, Pro and Novice. The Novice division does not require the skier/snowboarder to hit the jumps. Please read the full rules and regulations at SkijorSkowhegan.org for registration limitations. The Pro Division will have three, four-foot jumps.
New this year, competitors will race in two age groups, junior (10-17 yo) and adult (18+ yo). Race officials will assign competitors to their age group based on the skier's age.
Winning time is based on the best time of two runs. Each team will have the option to take two runs--one per heat. Age group and division heats will run consecutively.
All competitors will have the option to inspect the course before the start of the race at 11 a.m. A full competitor schedule will be emailed to registrants preceding race day.
There is no requirement to sign up as a team (horse rider and skier/snowboarder). Riders and skier/snowboarders may sign up individually and will be paired at the event.
- Riders must be 14+ years of age, skiers/snowboarders must be 10+ years of age.
- New this year, a horse and its rider may only run on one team.
- If an individual competitor signs up and can not be matched into a team they will receive a full refund of their registration.
Registration fees are nonrefundable.
