NIH Children's Inn Dinner on Sunday, January 27, 2019: Donate food and/or Volunteer to serve meal

It is time again to make a meal for the families staying at the NIH Children's Inn.  Sign up below to volunteer at the Children's Inn and/or to bring a food contribution to the Temple Sinai kitchen freezer/refrigerator. We will collect food contributions any time before 1pm on Sunday, January 27th. If your contribution may be safely frozen, you may deposit it in the Temple freezer (clearly labeled for NIH Children's Inn event) as early as Tuesday, January 22nd. Please provide food in containers that do not need to be returned. All food contributions need to be carefully labeled with all ingredients.

Money contributions & grocery gift cards will also be accepted both for the families staying at the Children's Inn and for additional items we may need to purchase for the meal. Please send checks to Judy Polk, 4012 Thornapple Street, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. Make your check payable to TS WRJ and indicate NIH Children's Inn in the memo line

If cooking, please refer to the Children's Inn food handling procedures for the safety of the often immune-suppressed patient residents. Those guidelines will be emailed to you before the event. Although there are no dietary restrictions, please:

(1) do not add nuts to any dish,

(2) provide a list of ingredients,

(3) clearly label what you have cooked,

(4) include any special instructions for reheating and preparation, and

(5) provide your food in non-returnable containers.

Volunteer slots are also available for those who would like to set-up and serve the meal at The Children's Inn. This is a very rewarding experience and a great way to start the new year.

If volunteering at the Children's Inn, please make sure you are healthy on that day as we do not want to expose residents to anything harmful. If you are ill on the day of the event, please let us know.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, and we are restricted to at most only 4 volunteers between ages 16 and 18. All others must be at least 18. Additional instructions for volunteers will be emailed to volunteers helping at the Children's Inn about a week before the event.

Questions? Please contact Roberta Binder at [email protected] or Emily Waldman at [email protected] Thanks again and looking forward to seeing you!
