TC56 Trip Leader Sign Up 2019-2020

T/C 56 ACTIVITIES

FALL 2019-SPRING 2020

The following is a listing of trips for the year 2019-2020.  Offered this scouting year is a Wilderness Canoe trip on the Alagash River in Northern Maine.  In order to qualify for the trip the Maine High enture scouts have specific age requirements plus other reqs, some of which all scouts participate in.

Maine High Adventure Requirements include:

·         Community Service Trip

·         Wilderness First Aid

·         2 qualifying canoe trips

·         Formal Shakedown (Memorial Day Vacation)

We offer 3 canoe trips for all the scouts during the year, of which 2 trips Maine High Adventure participants must sign up for.  In addition, we offer a community service trip for all the scouts. The Wilderness First Aid and the Shakedown are for the Maine High Adventure participants only.

 

 

Sept. 20-22, 2019

Canoeing at Miles Standish State Park, Plymouth, MA
AMC canoes.  Tent camp at the Park.

October 4-6, 2019

Biking Blackstone Heritage Corridor Trail:  Paved off road trail in Rhode Island (Woonsocket to Cumberland, 11 miles each way.)  Passes by four rolling dams and takes you through the Blackstone River State Park with a stop at the Capt. Wilbur Kelly House & Transportation Museum in Lincoln. Camp at Buck Hill or Champlin Scout Reservation-tent camping.

 

Nov. 8-10, 2019 (note: Nov 11 Veterans Day) 

Turkey Roast and Saturday Program at Camp Sayre (Base Camp),Milton,MA 

Combine a day program at Camp Sayre and the Turkey Roast.  One group would do Day Program, the other roast a turkey and cook a feast.  Families join in for the feast Saturday night.

Dec.14, 2019     DAY TRIP

American Heritage Museum, Stowe, MA- billed as one of the largest tank and military vehicle collections in the United State. The centerpiece of the museum is a 65,000-square-foot building, which features more than 90 military vehicles ranging from the World War I era to today. The collection includes the first American-built tank, the only German and Russian World War II-era tanks on display in the U.S., the only Scud missile launcher on display and a Higgins Boat used during the D-Day invasion in 1944.

January 10-12, 2020

Cross Country Skiing in White Mts

Stay at AMC’s Joe Dodge Lodge

February 7-9, 2020

Learn to Ice Fish, Northwood, NH

Stay in cabin at Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Camp.  Ranger at camp will set up ice fishing opportunity on Northwood Lake.

 

March 13-15 

Red Gate Farm, Ashfield, MA

summarized by Red Gate:  Scouts are organized into Farm Teams, toured around the property and introduced to focus areas: the garden… tilling, sorting, planting, watering, harvesting … the barns… feeding, grooming, mucking, mending, building… the forest… hiking, clearing, navigating, tracking..

Evenings bring bonfires and board games, stories and sing-a-longs after another delicious, farm-made meal and final chores.

April 3-5, 2020

Conservation Trip 

Trail Maintenance at a Mass Audubon or AMC site. Stay overnight in a heated space. Location TBD!

Canoeing on Tully Lake, Royalston,MA

Trustees of Reservations site.  Tent camping with car access.

Canoe to Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Park, Cape Cod:

Boat access only; three mile boat trip from Falmouth; camp at group site on island.
