BEACHES GO GREEN
BACK AGAIN! Beaches Go Green is sponsoring a massive OCTOPUS GARDEN (made from single-use plastic) at the 2019 Deck the Chairs event in Jacksonville Beach at the Seawalk Pavillion. This Octopus Garden will be a massive educational art exhibit to encourage awareness around the waste that we produce and how it affects the environment - particularly the excess of single-use plastic! The octopus stands 16' tall with massive tentacles covering a footprint of 150'. The tentacles vary in size with some large enough for adults to walk underneath them! Our educational signage this year will be HUGE! A variation of the jellyfish from last year's exhibit will be returning! There may be some other surprises as well!
We are greatful to our partners! Artistic Contractors of Atlantic Beach is overseeing the design and structure of the Octopus as well as the lighting. Republic Services is a supporting sponsor who is also providing most of the single-use plastic for the exhibit.
The exhibit will be open to the public from from 11/23/19 through 1/1/20. We will begin setting up the MONDAY November 18th and will begin clean up just after New Years on Thursday 1/2/20. Beaches Go Greens needs lots of volunteers to support this great awareness exhibit! We want to be well staffed with volunteers to answer questions and engage guests. There has already been a great amount of interest from the media. Please join us in #BEINGTHECHANGE
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FOLLOWING - PLEASE COME WHEN YOU CAN AND STAY AS LONG AS YOU CAN IN THE TIME SLOTS:
* Assist with assembly & setup of the OCTOPUS GARDEN & general Deck the Chairs setup!
* Greeters/educators in/around the OCTOPUS GARDEN to engage guests, answer questions, educate.
* Breakdown and cleanup of BGG OCTOPUS GARDEN and general DTC cleanup!
