Nearly 1 million children in Georgia schools are eligible to receive free or reduced-price breakfast & lunch, a crucial meal that disappears in the summer and school breaks. Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, through the dedication of thousands of volunteers and donors, insures that these children are fed. We will be preparing lunches for the children in the community December 26th, 27th & 28th / January 2nd, 3rd & 4th. Unlike other feeding programs, we take the food to the children in their neighborhoods, removing the barrier of lack of transportation.
We need individuals to purchase, prepare and deliver the lunches to the community. We need 2 adult volunteers on site each day to serve the lunches. We need 25 lunches each day of the week. This site has two apartment complexes next to each other (LaCarre & Rachel's Court). We serve the lunches around the playground area at the LaCarre Property.
This is a suggested shopping list for 100 lunches (just a guideline):
- (10) loaves of bread -- make sure each loaf has at least 20 slices
- (100) slices of cheese
- (100) slices of meat
- (10) 16-18 oz jar of jelly
- (10) 16-18 oz container of peanut butter
- (100) brown lunch bags
- (100) Ziploc bags
- (100) healthy snacks (baked chips/cookies/trail mix/popcorn)
- (100) fruit cups/pieces of fruit
- (100) 100% fruit juice boxes or water bottles
- Package of disposable gloves
Some groups also include a "sweet treat" such as a fruit snack, a piece of candy, or Rice Krispie treats, etc., though it is not necessary!
If you are 18 years of age or older and will be interacting with the children in the community, you must complete a background check at the link below.
