Kalamazoo in Bloom
We have a few opportunities to adopt in downtown Kalamazoo or the City Centre in Portage. Responsibilities include weeding, deadheading and removing litter. Going on vacation for a week? No problem, let the gardener(s) know and they'll care for it until you return. KIB gardeners will take care of all the watering.
- Sign up to adopt a flower bed in downtown Kalamazoo. Tend to your bed once a week throughout the summer (end of May through the end of September).
- Sign up to adopt a flower bed in Portage. Tend to your bed once a week throughout the summer (end of May through the end of September).
- Sign up to adopt flower containers in downtown Kalamazoo. We have clusters of containers placed throughout Bronson Park, City Hall and the County Courthouse that need a little TLC to help them continue to look their best throughout the summer. Our gardener does all of the watering, but you can help pinch off spent blooms so they stay spectacular. Adopt a few or several containers and visit them once per week.
- Sign up to adopt flower containers at the Transportation Center in Kalamazoo. The volunteer group who helps us plant the containers at the train station could use assistance tending to the flower containers throughout the summer. Transportation Center staff does all of the watering, but you can visit the containers once per week to help pinch off spent blooms and clear out litter so they stay spectacular looking for all those coming into Kalamazoo.
All adopters will receive a Kalamazoo in Bloom shirt to identify you as a volunteer while volunteering, as well as a parking pass for Kalamazoo. Please sign up by April 30 to reserve your shirt (though signups will continue through May until everything is adopted). If you are not able to make it to one of the planting days on May 15 or May 21, please include your mailing/home address (or email to Monika separately) to have your adopter packet mailed/dropped off.
