Kalamazoo in Bloom
We have opportunities to adopt in downtown Kalamazoo or the City Centre in Portage. Perfect opportunity for groups or on your own. Responsibilities include weeding, deadheading, and removing debris from your bed. Going on vacation for a week? No problem, let the gardener(s) know and they'll care for it until you return. KIB gardeners will take care of all the watering.

Adopters will have their names on the flower bed sign all summer long. Sign up before June 1 to have your name on the sign.
- Sign up to adopt a flower bed in downtown Kalamazoo. Tend to your bed once a week throughout the summer (end of May through the end of September).
- Sign up to adopt a flower bed in Portage. Tend to your bed once a week throughout the summer (end of May through the end of September).
- Sign up to adopt flower containers at the Transportation Center in Kalamazoo. The volunteer group who helps us plant the containers at the train station could use assistance tending to the flower containers throughout the summer. Transportation Center staff does all of the watering, but you can visit the containers once per week to help pinch off spent blooms and clear out litter so they stay spectacular looking for all those coming into Kalamazoo.
There will be a limited number of new shirts this year. Feel free to wear a Kalamazoo in Bloom shirt from past seasons. If you're a new volunteer, please be sure to let us know your unisex shirt size. KIB volunteer shirts identify you as a volunteer while working. Kalamazoo bed adopters will get a new parking pass.
We also invite you to attend one of our family day open houses to learn more about KIB, what we do to beautify our communities, and how volunteer support is essential to our mission. Virtual open house is on April 21 at 6:30 (recording found on our Facebook page). In-person family days are on Saturday, May 14 from 10:30-11:30 at Bronson Park or Sunday, May 15 from 10:30-11:30 on Library Lane in Portage. These may be especially helpful for new volunteers. Registrations for each of these can be found here.
