Kalamazoo in Bloom

2022 Planting Activities & More

There are many opportunities to volunteer with our extended planting schedule in Portage and Kalamazoo. We have also added an afternoon shift from 12-3 pm to finish planting/mulching that didn't get done in the morning.

We encourage you to invite friends and family to join you. Extra volunteers are always welcome and helpful (please no young children who need extra supervision).

Planting happens rain or shine so dress appropriately. Bring gloves, trowel & kneeling pad if you have them. On days we add mulch, bring a bucket, wheelbarrow, and snow shovel if you have them. Extra supplies will be on hand.

Feel free to wear a KIB shirt from past seasons. There will be limited new shirts available during the main planting days in Portage (May 18-20) and Kalamazoo (May 25-27).

Adopters: if you want to plant your bed on a different day than is designated on the schedule, please contact Monika.

We also invite you to attend one of our family day open houses to learn more about KIB, what we do to beautify our communities, and how volunteer support is essential to our mission. Virtual open house is on April 21 at 6:30 (recording found on our Facebook page). In-person family days are on Saturday, May 14 from 10:30-11:30 at Bronson Park or Sunday, May 15 from 10:30-11:30 on Library Lane in Portage. These may be especially helpful for new volunteers. Registrations for each of these can be found here.
