Kalamazoo in Bloom

2021 Planting Activities & More

We have an extended planting schedule in Portage and Kalamazoo this year. There are many days to volunteer, and we've added new activities as well.

Watch our series of informative videos:
KIB welcome & thank you to volunteers, Portage
KIB welcome & thank you to volunteers, Kalamazoo
KIB planting basics
Bed supervisor orientation
Portage bed adopter orientation
Kalamazoo bed adopter orientation

Masks are encouraged, especially since you may be planting with people you are meeting for the first time. Feel free to also ask friends and family to join you in planting a bed. Extra volunteers are always welcomed and helpful, but please no young children who need extra supervision.

Planting happens rain or shine so dress appropriately. Bring gloves, trowel & kneeling pad if you have them. On days we add mulch, bring a bucket, wheelbarrow, and snow shovel if you have them. Extra supplies will be on hand.

Feel free to wear a KIB shirt from past seasons. There will be limited new shirts available during the main planting days in Portage (May 19-21) and Kalamazoo (May 26-28).

FOR MASTER GARDENERS: MSU Extension has advised that no Master Gardeners volunteer for any projects until further notice. If you volunteer, we ask that your role be as a "Kalamazoo in Bloom volunteer" instead of as an "MSU Extension Master Gardener".

Thank you!
