On Saturday, August 27, we will participate in a Day of Service to complete several projects for Friends of Refugees, Welcome Co-Op, and Memorial Drive Ministries. All ages are welcome. Thank you for your support of this interdenominational service project!
Memorial Drive Ministries: (Ideally 20-25 participants) Volunteers will travel to the MDM campus in Clarkston to participate in manually removing rotten garden plots used by the community and rebuilding them. Volunteers will also be clearing a wooded area that is overgrown with weeds, brush, and undergrowth. Once the undergrowth is cleared and the green space is open, landscaping will be implemented and mulch will be spread. Volunteers will rearrange playground equipment, seating areas, etc. to create a welcoming space for refugees to gather.
Welcome Co-Op: (Ideally 5-10 participants) Volunteers will travel to Welcome Co-Op’s warehouse in Doraville to participate in assembling welcome kits and furniture. The kits and furniture will be used in housing set-ups for refugee families during the following week. Conditions will be hot in the warehouse, as there is no central air conditioning. Fans and water will be provided.
Friends of Refugees: (Ideally 25-30 participants) Volunteers will travel to the Jolly Ave. Community Garden in Clarkston to participate in several garden related activities. Participants will engage in weeding, watering, and harvesting vegetables from the volunteer plots. Also, Fall seeding will begin during this time of year; so volunteers may begin that process as well. Foods harvested from the Jolly Ave Garden volunteer plots are donated to local food pantries for distribution to the community.
