Children & Parents
The program will be reintrodued with smaller groups and new requirements to maintain safety. The sessions will be limited to a maximum of 6 children per session (as designated by the slots available per session). Only one adult may accompany a child to limit the number of people in the shelter until further notice. Children who are able to read at any level, may come into the shelter (with a parent or guardian) to practice their reading skills by reading out loud to our cats. Please review and honor the updated COVID and guidelines below before signing up. Slots become available 14 days before the scheduled session. Please check back regulalry.
***(Please do not bring any siblings, not registered, or additional adults as it will put us over capacity and compromise the safety and experience for the other readers. Unregistered children or additional adult participants will not be permitted back into the shelter. Please bring only the child who will actually be reading.) Masks are currently strongly recommended for all people at the shelter regardless of vaccine status.
** We ask that everyone follow the guidelines to ensure fairness to all who attend.
- Children - Minimum age 6 years old - up to 14 years old (1st - 8th Grades)
- Please do not bring any siblings, not registered
- Maximum of 2 children per parent or guardian (In the participant slot please accurately indicate if it is one or two children being signed up)
- Please only sign up a maximum of two children/parent or guardian. If you would like to attend with additional children, another parent or guardian must sign up (up to two children). They must also be present at the session. Due to COVID precautions no more than one adult per child will be permitted to attend the session
***If you have a GROUP of children who want to read (i.e.) scout troops, please contact Good Mews to set up a separate date for your group.
Please have your child bring their favorite book(s) to read, plan to read 30-40 minutes, and wear comfortable clothing (preferably pants). They will be sitting on a blanket on the floor.
I Read to Cats T-shirts are available for $15.00 (cash or check) following the session.
Good Mews operates 100% from donations. In addition to cash donations, Good Mews constantly needs shelter supplies to keep our cats clean, healthy, and well-fed. Please consider bringing a (tax-deductible donation) of any of the items listed on the link below. http://goodmews.org/giving-to-gm/in-kind-donations/
Thank you for your interest in the program. Additional dates will be posted roughly two weeks prior to the start of the following month so check back later for additional dates.
