RVA MakerFest

RVA MakerFest Volunteer Registration

Celebrating our 5th year, RVA MakerFest is a free, family-friendly, interactive festival bringing together a wide spectrum of local, creative and innovative makers and tinkerers leading hands-on activities in art, robotics, body care, science, technology, wellness, engineering, sustainability, food, music and fashion attracting up to 10,000 attendees. Makers also have handmade goods for sale!

RVA MakerFest needs volunteers for our October 6th event at The Science Museum of Virginia. We are expecting thousands of attendees, and have close to 100 makers (vendors).  Volunteers help fuel this event, and are critical for contributing to the success of makers and attendees having engaging experiences. Below is a list of roles and shifts. Volunteers need to be 16 or over.

GREETERS:   Welcome attendees at the main entrance and hand out programs.

INFO BOOTH: (Seated)  answer all kinds of questions, from "where are the restrooms?" to "how do I find a certain maker?", and communicate with other volunteers working other areas.

VOLUNTEER BOOTH:   (Seated) Check in volunteers, go over their tasks, send them on their way. Help keep track of where volunteers are supposed to be, and where they might be needed.

MAKER ASSISTANCE:  Man a maker's booth briefly while they take a break or step away.  You will not be responsible for making any sales or handling cash. You'll engage the attendees in the maker's booth while he/she is on a short break.  Ask makers if they need help.

LOAD In & Out:  Help makers (vendors) load in and out.  Lifting and loading boxes, carrying materials, with or without handcarts and/or dollies. The makers REALLY appreciate this help.

BEER GARDEN - CHECK IDs:   Must be 21+.  ID check and issue wristbands.

BEER GARDEN - POUR BEER:  Must be 21+.  Pour beer and have fun!

PARKING:  Direct makers to unload area & maker only parking lot; verify & collect makers' paperwork.  This position is only from 7:00am - 9:30am.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Direct attendees to more makers inside Gottwald Events Center.
