Alfred University
The tradition began at the US Naval Academy and dates back to 1912. The tossing of the caps tradition signifies both the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new chapter.
College of Business Dean Mark Lewis has offered to use his drone piloting credentials to do an overhead video of graduates tossing their caps in the air.
Graduating students may meet at 2:00pm on Friday, April 23 between the Powell Campus Center and Alumni Hall, near the King Alfred statue and the Fiat Lux sign with your caps. Students will be required to social distance and wear masks.
Students will be asked to maintain space in this area and toss their caps into the air in a “wave” fashion so the drone can capture the video in a moving fashion. The video will be shown at the end of the Commencement ceremony.
