Stewards of Nachusa Grasslands
This is the signup for the 2020-2021 Nachusa Grasslands workday steward leaders.
Note that we are offering both Thursday and Saturday workdays. Thursday leaders can specify their start and stop times when they sign up. Leaders can also request fewer than 6 volunteers by noting the reduction in their signup comments.
Due to COVID-19 safety protocols and new Morton Building construction traffic, volunteer workdays will meet at the Nachusa Grasslands Visitor Center.
When you sign up, be sure to list your unit name and tentative activities (for example, seed collection/processing/planting, weed management, and/or brush clearing). You can change or update your plans closer to the date of your workday.
You can also volunteer to lead a workday at the new 1420 Naylor property (or some other unit) if there aren't enough tasks in your own unit to keep a workday group busy. You would be assigned a list of tasks and a specific area in which to work.
COVID-19 safety protocols have been established and must be followed by all workday leaders and volunteers until further notice. See the attached "COVID-19 Workday Safety Protocols 2020-08-21" for details. Workday tips and a checklist are also attached.
To control the number of participants and help leaders plan equipment and tasks, volunteers will be required to sign up in advance. See https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080945afa82baafb6-nachusa8 for the sign-up form.
You will receive a reminder from [email protected] with "Nachusa Grasslands" as the sender one week before your scheduled workday asking you to reply with your workday plans by noon on Tuesday. You can also send photos of your worksite for posting on social media.
If your availability changes, please try to find a substitute. If you are unsuccessful, contact Bill Kleiman and send an email by clicking the envelope below. We'll do our best to help out.
You don't have to set up a SignUpGenius logon to sign up for a workday.
This year's roundup is tentatively scheduled for the week of October 19, so no workdays should take place in the Bison Unit on October 22 or 24.
Several of Nachusa’s units, including Orland, Tellabs, Bennett, Brandt, Didier, Meiners Wetlands, Clear Creek Knolls, Clear Creek Knolls South, Thelma Carpenter, and Senger Williams, are closed during shotgun hunting season for deer, which runs the Friday through Sunday before Thanksgiving and the weekend following Thanksgiving weekend. Workdays may therefore not take place in those units on November 21 or December 3 or 5.
Workday leaders and units will be added to the website calendar (https://www.nachusagrasslands.org/nachusa-events.html) as they are scheduled.
