Marion Co. Master Gardeners - Public events
Presenter: Harry Olson, OSU Master Gardener
Growing espalier and columnar fruit trees allows you to fit multiple varieties in your yard while maintaining plenty of open space. It is easy to maintain the height of a trained tree so you can keep it as tall or as short as you’d like. With a clear view of all the fruit, harvesting the fruit from a well-trained tree takes minutes.
Harry has transformed his small Salem lot into a vertical gardening showplace, including surrounding his yard with espaliered and columnar fruit trees. This workshop will show you how to plan, build and maintain an espaliered and columnar fruit tree orchard.
